A work in progress
What they say about first impressions being the last impressions is true..but only partially. Because, at first glance, San Francisco is simply a beautiful and Instagram-worthy city. It’s also a city that reflects the sentiment of America being a ‘melting pot’.
Different cultures, ethnicities and nationalities all under one limitless sky. The thought itself is wondrous to me.
However, as you peel off the “pretty” and “diverse” layer that composes San Fran, you realize that the charming Golden City is and will always be an integral part of the educational and start-up community.
And, why wouldn’t it be? San Francisco will forever be synonymous with ‘Stanford University’ and ‘Silicon Valley’!
Not to mention, this city is inhabited by two of the most esteemed professors such as Naeem Zafar and R Paul Singh, who have been successful entrepreneurs themselves.
Personally, this city is everything I dreamed it would be. Fast-paced, aesthetically pleasing and bubbling with business opportunities everywhere only if one is keen on spotting them.
Also, home to some of the most accomplished tech companies in the world such as Visa and Slack Technologies, City by the Bay has continually managed to shoulder many people’s entrepreneurial dreams on its sturdy shoulders.
However, one distasteful aspect that may tarnish my first impression of San Fran is people being careless regarding the Coronavirus and refusing to wear masks in public places.
I even saw people going out on Tinder dates and eating at China Town: usually one of the most crowded places in the city. Oh, the nerve!
As for the Entrepreneurship with Design Thinking course that I am grateful to be studying in a city that has the potential to make my own set of dreams come true, my first and lasting impression is that this course will give me a more hands-on experience when it comes to starting one’s venture and observing everything that goes on at a start-up.
The ‘design’ facet of the course is new, innovative and seems to promise more on-site experience as well.
I also believe that this course will never be limited to textbooks. We, as students, will have full rein to explore and attend as many networking events and meet-ups as possible.
It is also important to develop the right mindset to start a venture and I am sure that my professors will aid me in getting there. After all, no entrepreneur in their right mind would begin chasing their dreams with incomplete knowledge of the industry they are interested in.
The art of investing and effective marketing also plays a significant role in establishing one’s business venture in a market that is already overflowing with ambitious startups every day.
This is why I think that this program will teach me a more raw and real approach so that I can branch out lucratively in an already competitive world.
Even the process of ideation, which looks straightforward on the surface, will take time to perfect. This is why I am especially looking forward to attending my Entrepreneurial Startups class as it will allow me to come up with truly inventive and unbiased ideas for a venture that my future customers will be attracted to.
I am beyond excited to begin my learning.
